In the 1970s, an original street band popped up on the music scene to entertain folks as well as make them think about the issues of the day. Since then, WAR has been honored with 17 Gold, Platinum or Multi-Platinum albums as one of the most successful funk bands of its generation. Similarly,Tower of Power has reinvented urban soul with its horn-driven sound to writing, arranging, mixing and performing. Rising out of the Bay Area, Tower has entertained sold-out crowds for more than 40 years. Now, Spirit Mountain Casino is proud to bring these two acts together for one night at the Events Center on October 22!WAR is known as the original street band that was created by famed producer Jerry Goldstein and rocker Eric Burdon, formerly of The Animals. In 1969, the group was performing in a bar in San Fernando when they were discovered by Goldstein. Later joined by Burdon, WAR was chosen as the name for the new band apropos a time when anti-Vietnam slogans were common. The bands mission to promote brotherhood and harmony was carried out with music that spoke out against racism, hunger, gangs, crime, and of course, war. When it came time to hit the recording studio, Burdon and company produced the debut album, Eric Burdon Declares WAR, with the title track, Spill the Wine, which became a global hit and launched the bands career. WARs popularity has grown ever since, with legions of WARrior fans that follow the band as it tours more than 150 cities a year. Tower of Power (TOP) began in 1968 when co-founder Emilio Castillo met fellow saxophonist Stephen Kupka at an audition. The two were signed onto Bill Grahams San Francisco Records and released their first album, Easy Bay Grease. Since then, the Tower of Power Horns, as they are so affectionately called, has jammed alongside artists such as Aerosmith, Elton John, Phish and others. In 2008, TOP celebrated its 40th anniversary with a reunion show at Fillmore Auditorium in San Francisco, where more than 30 current and past members of the band joined on stage. New generations of fans come see the band each year, as their timeless music is still rings true today.
